The effect of educational intervention on the caring attitude of the staff of round-the-clock rehabilitation centers towards mentally disabled children in Kermanshah city in 2022

Background and purpose: carrying out appropriate interventions to improve the favorable care attitude can have a great effect on improving the quality of life. The present study was conducted in order to determine the effectiveness of educational intervention on the caring attitude of caregivers of mentally disabled children. Methods: The present study was a pre-test and post-test intervention with a control group. The statistical population consisted of 50 caregivers of round-the-clock care centers in Kermanshah city, who were selected by available sampling method. In order to collect data, two questionnaires of personal characteristics and Goreczny's attitude questionnaire were used. Data analysis was done using SPSS version 16 software and descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings: The results of the study showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the average score of caregivers' attitude in both groups before the intervention (p<0.05), but after the implementation of the educational intervention, the attitude score of the caregivers in the intervention group increased more (p<0.001). Conclusion: The results of the study showed; Educational intervention has been effective in improving the attitude of caregivers of mentally disabled children. The findings of this study suggest holding training courses related to disability in other care and rehabilitation centers of the country as an effective step towards changing the attitude and increasing the awareness of caregivers and health workers.
